DRIVER CERTIFICATE OF PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE (CPC)
What is the Driver CPC? The Driver CPC is a scheme for LGV (and PCV drivers) who drive professionally throughout the UK. It has being developed as a requirement of the EU Directive 2003/59, which is designed to improve the knowledge and skills of professional LGV and PCV drivers throughout their working life. Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) training is continuing professional development which carries on throughout the drivers’ career.

Drivers will have to complete a minimum of 35 hours of approved training every 5 years. How will the Driver CPC affect me? New drivers passing their LGV or PCV Tests after 10th September 2009 must complete their first cycle of periodic training within 5 years of the date they acquired their Driver CPC.

Existing professional bus, coach and lorry drivers who passed their tests prior to 10th September 2009 are deemed to hold Driver CPC by acquired rights. However, all drivers who come into this category must complete their periodic training within 5 years of the introduction of Driver CPC as follows:
